Set up AutoTally on Windows

Updated: 29 August 2026 · Applies to AutoTally 1.5 with TallyPrime.

AutoTally imports bank statements, sales registers, purchase registers and expense invoices, shows you every extracted entry for review, and posts the vouchers you approve straight into TallyPrime. It is licensed at ₹5,999 + 18% GST per year, runs entirely on your PC, and needs no login. Here is the full setup, start to finish.

1. Install AutoTally

  1. Download the installer from the download page — it is about 95 MB.
  2. Right-click the downloaded AutoTally installer and select Run as administrator.
  3. Windows may show a SmartScreen prompt because the installer is not yet code-signed. If you see "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway — and only do this for installers you downloaded from 24etax.com.
  4. Complete the installation using the default options.
  5. Launch AutoTally from the desktop or Start menu. No login is required.

2. Configure TallyPrime

Before opening AutoTally, get TallyPrime ready to receive vouchers:

  1. Open TallyPrime.
  2. Load the company in which vouchers need to be posted.
  3. Go to Exchange → Data Synchronisation or the relevant Connectivity settings.
  4. Set TallyPrime acts as to Both or Server.
  5. Set the port to 9000.
  6. Keep TallyPrime and the required company open while AutoTally is in use.

3. Configure AutoTally

  1. Add or select the required client/company.
  2. Enter the exact Tally company name.
  3. Set the Tally gateway URL to http://127.0.0.1:9000.
  4. Select the appropriate bank ledger.
  5. Configure the sales, purchase, GST, round-off and other ledger names according to the ledgers maintained in Tally.

4. AI option 1 — free, on your own PC (Ollama)

This option processes documents on your computer and does not require an API subscription. A minimum of 16 GB RAM is recommended for good performance.

  1. Download and install Ollama for Windows.
  2. Open PowerShell and run ollama pull llama3.1:8b — this model handles text.
  3. Then run ollama pull qwen2.5vl:7b — this vision model handles scanned invoices and images, and is available from the official Ollama model library.
  4. Confirm both models are installed with ollama list.
  5. Open AutoTally and go to Settings → AI Settings.
  6. Select Local Model (Ollama).
  7. Enter the Ollama address: http://localhost:11434.
  8. Select the text model llama3.1:8b and the vision model qwen2.5vl:7b, then click Save Settings.

Keep Ollama running whenever AutoTally is being used. If AutoTally is installed on a cloud Windows server, Ollama must normally be installed on that same server.

5. AI option 2 — cloud, with an API key

Cloud AI generally processes documents faster but requires an internet connection and an API key from the provider you choose. Be aware that documents processed using cloud AI are transmitted to the selected provider — if your client data must never leave your machine, use the local option above. Enter the key under Settings → AI Settings and select the cloud model.
